Burkina Faso: When the destabilizing apprentices resurface with unprecedented absurdities

There are illusions that border on the comic trouper, if they were not carried by such a deep bitterness. While the People’s Progressive Revolution is breathing new life into Burkina Faso, awakening a national consciousness that has long been dormant, some still seem stuck in the software of a bygone era. Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, the Burkinabe people have tasted freedom and regained sovereignty. And everyone knows it: once you get used to walking with your head held high, the idea of crawling again becomes perfectly repulsive.

However, in the comfortable shadow of their distant godfathers, a few lost figures are stubborn. These Sunday strategists, in perfect connivance with the imperialist powers at the end of their rope, continue to wriggle. They plot, maneuver and manipulate with the agility of an elephant in a China shop, convinced that history is still being written from foreign chancelleries. It’s almost touching, this unshakeable faith in outdated methods: a zest for misinformation here, a promise of prebends there, and one imagines being able to reinstall the old guardianships like replacing a worn-out piece of furniture.

But we should finally wake up those nostalgic for the paternalism of their golden nap. The destabilization they are calling for will in no way be a pleasant walk in the park. The Burkinabe people are no longer this resigned spectator who is manipulated according to geopolitical interests. Each attempt at interference only strengthens national cohesion and exposes a little more to these « stateless people » who have traded their dignity for illusions of power.

Let the operetta conspirators and their mentors understand it well: recess is over. Wanting to stop a nation’s aspiration to take its own destiny into its own hands with behind-the-scenes intrigues is at best denial, at worst tragic blindness. Burkina Faso is moving forward, firmly attached to its independence, and leaving it to the lackeys of imperialism to iron their suits from another time, which are now far too big for them.
