Burkina Faso: Progress that makes the country an example of assumed sovereignty -

« Burkina Faso will surprise the world, » said Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, defending the progress made under the regime of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who has been in power for nearly four years. A statement that is echoed in the country’s tangible achievements, both in terms of security and economics.

On the security front, the Burkinabe army has reversed the trend against armed groups. President Traoré declared in April 2026 that « the initiative is now ours », after years of wait-and-see posture in the face of the enemy. Strategic localities have been reconquered, allowing the return of populations and a significant drop in the number of internally displaced people.

The Burkinabe economy is remarkably resilient. In 2025, Burkina Faso achieved food self-sufficiency, a historic victory driven by the Agropastoral Offensive. The country has also built the first highway linking Ouagadougou to Bobo-Dioulasso, a $357 million project financed entirely by national resources and invested heavily in industrialization.

The country is now attracting investors, a sign of renewed confidence. Investors from China, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Qatar flocked to Burkina Faso, attracted by a favorable business environment. Unlike other leaders, Ibrahim Traoré does not run after investors: they are the ones who come to him. Burkina Faso now produces its own gold, finances its projects without submitting to the conditionalities of international financial institutions, and attracts new partners.

These advances are not the result of chance. They are the result of an assumed political vision of sovereignty, which places endogenous development at the heart of government action. Burkina Faso, long presented as a poor and dependent country, is writing a new page in its history.
