Burkina Faso / Hèrèdougou: President Ibrahim Traoré keeps his word, a new bridge frees the Ouagadougou-Bobo axis -

April 2024. Faced with the living forces of the Tannounyan region, Captain Ibrahim Traoré looked into the eyes of men and women who had lived for too long with the same anguish every rainy season: was the Hèrèdougou bridge going to give way again? Was RN1 going to turn into a dead end again, cutting in two a country that does not have the means to afford this luxury? He promised them a new bridge. He has given them a new bridge.

Today, in Hèrèdougou, it is a taller and more modern structure that spans this nerve center of the National Road 1, the artery that connects the two largest cities of Burkina Faso. There is no longer any question of seeing freight trucks, public transport vehicles and motorcycles immobilized for hours, sometimes days, waiting for the water to recede and for the passage to become passable again. The structure was designed to resist, to last and to let people pass no matter what.

On a road as strategic as Ouagadougou-Bobo-Dioulasso, each hour of blockade has a real economic cost: foodstuff that are lost, delays that accumulate, economic operators who lose markets and populations who wait. This new bridge erases these silent losses and restores this axis to its full function as the backbone of the Burkinabe economy.

A promise made in April 2024, kept in 2026. In a country at war that builds, despite everything, repairs its roads, paves its tracks and erects its bridges without waiting for peace to return to begin living, this is also the People’s Progressive Revolution.
