Burkina Faso: Four years of change, the course of reconquest and sovereignty
A few days before the anniversary of his accession to power, the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, yesterday, Sunday, September 27, 2026, gave an update to journalists on the achievements in security, defense, administrative reforms, development and reconquest of the territory. His message: a country in full transformation.
On the security front, the Head of State welcomed the level of hardening of the Burkinabe fighters, describing an army with competent and determined human resources. He also highlighted substantial equipment, intended to fight terrorism as well as to prepare the defense of national sovereignty. Several strategic localities and areas, particularly on the border, have been retaken after several years of escaping state control. According to him, the populations are resettled with the necessary means for sustainable local development. He also addressed the reorganization of the army, the defense industry and vigilance on social networks, where certain images can inform the enemy.
On the economic level, the line is one of reappropriation. The president considered that strategic sectors cannot be left to the private sector, citing SOSUCO and SOFITEX. He announced that Faso Yaar will soon have large supply warehouses for traders, with products imported exclusively by the state. He also presented the fight against fraud as both an economic and a security issue.
Agriculture is another pillar. The Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive, considered successful, is extended by a second phase (2026-2028) integrating hydraulics, in order to allow cultivation in all seasons, with seeds and subsidized fertilizers near producers.
At the regional level, Captain Traoré pleaded for cohabitation between the AES and ECOWAS in order to facilitate the free movement of goods and people. He asked the populations to remain attentive to the AES currency and considered a joint candidacy of the AES countries to the 2032 AFCON to be realistic. Finally, he invited the AES media to deconstruct the narrative of imperialism and to help the populations project themselves into the future.
This assessment outlines a coherent project: to secure, produce and control strategic levers. At the dawn of the fifth year, the challenge will be to transform these orientations into sustainable results, visible in the daily lives of Burkinabè.
