Burkina Faso: Laying the foundations of a new future in 2026 -

The year 2026 marks a decisive turning point for Burkina Faso, as the government has made infrastructure a strategic lever for sovereignty and development. Embodying the vision of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, several large-scale projects are being carried out, with the aim of opening up the country and modernizing its transport.

The most emblematic project is undoubtedly the construction of the first highway linking Ouagadougou to Bobo-Dioulasso. 332 kilometers long, it is entirely financed by the country’s internal resources, with a budget of about 357 million dollars. The progress of the work is spectacular: in just 40 days, the teams have cleared more than 70% of the route, with more than 100 construction machines mobilized. The Minister of Construction considered the progress of the first lot « very satisfactory ».

This strategic corridor will facilitate trade with the ports of Abidjan, Lomé, Tema and Cotonou, strengthening Burkina Faso’s position as a hub in the heart of the Sahel. At the same time, the new Hèrèdougou bridge on National Road No. 1, inaugurated in June 2026, puts an end to the recurrent disruptions during the rainy season. This 72-meter bridge, built in ten months for 4.548 billion CFA francs, now ensures the continuity of traffic on a vital axis for the sub-region. In Ouagadougou, more than 40 billion CFA francs have been invested in new roads, including the North Ring Road, to improve urban mobility.

To carry out these projects, the State has provided the Faso Mêbo Agency with 776 public works machines, marking a desire to control the projects. President Traoré insisted on citizen mobilization to ensure the sustainability of these infrastructures, stressing that the year 2026 would see the start of many major projects.

These massive investments in roads and motorways are a concrete response to landlockedness. They lay the foundations for sustainable economic development and strengthen the sense of national sovereignty in a complex regional context.
