Burkina Faso: The State Sanctuaries Its Economic Levers and Permanently Bans the Privatization of Its Key Sectors
History will remember this day of October 19, 2026, as the moment when the national representation broke the last links in the neoliberal straitjacket to seal the industrial reconquest of the territory. By voting almost unanimously in Parliament (70 votes in favor and only one abstention), the deputies of the People’s Legislative Assembly have set in stone in law an absolute ban on the privatization, whether partially or totally, of any public company of a strategic nature.
This offensive legislation puts a definitive stop to the sell-off of national economic jewels. By repealing an outdated 1993 text from the era of impositional structural adjustments, Burkina Faso is rejecting the compromises of the past.
