The President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has placed the memory of Captain Thomas Sankara at the heart of the commemoration of the 39th anniversary of his death. Through a message read by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo last week, the Head of State recalled that the ideal carried by Sankara remains alive in Burkina Faso.

In this message, President Ibrahim Traoré stressed that the voice of Thomas Sankara, broken on October 15, 1987, has never ceased to resonate. According to him, it crosses generations, borders and continents, inspiring all people who refuse injustice, domination and submission.

The President of Faso presented Sankara not as a simple historical figure, but as a permanent reference for political and national action. For the Burkinabe Head of State, the legacy of the « Captain of the Revolution » is a program based on dignity, sovereignty, patriotism and social justice.

This position was part of the vision of the People’s Progressive Revolution, which claimed to be the continuity of the Sankarist ideal. The Head of State thus calls on the Burkinabè to keep this heritage alive through their commitment, their discipline and their attachment to the interests of the country.

The ceremony, organized at the Ouagadougou Memorial in the presence of the Prime Minister, the President of the People’s Legislative Assembly and several authorities, confirmed the central place of Thomas Sankara in the national memory. For Captain Ibrahim Traoré, honoring Sankara also means reaffirming Burkina Faso’s desire to build a sovereign, dignified future focused on the progress of its people.
