Eswatini: Royal roadmap 2026 – setting the course for national transformation, growth and employment with 35 guidelines
In February 2026, the Throne Speech delivered by King Mswati III marked a turning point in Eswatini’s development strategy. On the occasion of the opening of the third session of the 12th Parliament, the sovereign articulated 35 royal directives designed as a clear roadmap to accelerate the economic and social transformation of the kingdom.
These directives cover key sectors: economic diversification, infrastructure expansion, digitalization, youth empowerment, social protection, and regional leadership.
Their relevance lies in their ability to simultaneously address the country’s structural weaknesses and growth opportunities. By setting quantified targets, the King gives concrete impetus to government action.
On the economic front, emphasis is placed on the creation of at least 10 large enterprises across various sectors, each achieving a minimum annual turnover of 10 billion.
This measure aims to reduce dependence on Southern African Customs Union (SACU) revenue and stimulate local investment.
The sovereign also calls for mobilizing at least 8 billion in viable industries capable of generating jobs and tripling returns on investment.
Infrastructure occupies a central place in this vision. The government is invited to pave 500 kilometers of roads by 2028, expand the industrial hall construction program, and achieve universal access to clean drinking water by 2030.
These projects are intended not only to improve the country’s competitiveness but also to attract foreign direct investment.
Digitalization and innovation are also at the heart of priorities. The transition of all government systems to digital platforms, the introduction of secure passports, and the integration of modern technologies into education reflect a determination to modernize the administration and prepare youth for the jobs of tomorrow.
Finally, the royal directives emphasize social protection: eliminating medicine shortages in hospitals, strengthening the regional development fund, and improving the national housing initiative.
These measures aim to ensure that growth benefits everyone, particularly the most vulnerable.
These 35 directives offer a coherent and ambitious vision. They reflect King Mswati III’s determination to make Eswatini a resilient, diversified, and prosperous country, capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.
