Burkina Faso/ Council of Ministers adopts decree declaring léguéma integrated glass production complex project urgent public utility
The Council of Ministers adopted a decree declaring the project to establish an integrated industrial glass production complex in Léguéma, in the commune of Bobo-Dioulasso, to be of urgent public utility. This decision is part of the government’s industrialization drive, aimed at meeting growing demand for glass products and strengthening the competitiveness of the national economy.
The project footprint covers 60 hectares, 37 ares and 19 centiares, on land located outside the subdivision in Léguéma, in the province of Houet, Guiriko region. This area is needed to host production units, technical infrastructure, storage spaces and related equipment.
The declaration of urgent public utility makes it possible to mobilize and secure the land, a prerequisite for the effective launch of works.
This glass complex is part of the vision of the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP), which places industrialization at the heart of economic transformation.
The Léguéma project adds to a series of structuring initiatives undertaken in recent months. Since 2022, 23 industrial units producing detergents and soaps, two tomato concentrate units and one chalk unit have been established on the national territory.
The « Société viticole du Burkina » (SOVIB), created in October 2026, also illustrates this desire to add value to local resources. With initial capital of one billion FCFA, it plans an investment of about 9.8 billion FCFA and the creation of hundreds of jobs.
In Bobo-Dioulasso, the FASO RAILS railway industrial complex, led by the Société de Fabrique et de Pose de Rails, is another major milestone.
Located on a 59.3368-hectare plot in Kotédougou, it aims to revive the railway sector and strengthen the country’s industrial capacities.
The peripheral easement zone, covering 40 hectares, will host industrial roads, technical networks, security areas and land reserves for future extensions.
The 2027 budget, set at 4,200 billion FCFA in revenue, provides for strengthened support for the agricultural sector, industrialization and infrastructure.
This trajectory is part of the RELANCE 2026–2030 Plan, which aims for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Projects of the National Office of Major Projects of Burkina (BN-GPB) complement this momentum, with investments in health, technical education and transport infrastructure.
The objective is to create jobs, add value to local resources and reduce dependence on imports. The Léguéma glass complex, like the other structuring projects, is part of this logic of economic sovereignty.
Securing land, mobilizing resources and supporting investors are the conditions for the success of this ambition.
Burkina Faso is resolutely moving forward on the path of industrialization. With the Léguéma glass complex, Burkina Faso is taking a new step in its economic transformation.
This project, alongside FASO RAILS, SOVIB and the many recent industrial units, reflects a strong political will to build a productive and competitive economy.
Industrialization is no longer a promise: it is becoming a tangible reality, in the service of national development.
