Burkina Faso is experiencing a real entrepreneurial effervescence. Driven by dynamic youth and growing public and private initiatives, the start-up ecosystem is structured around incubators, funding programs and success stories in the fintech, agritech and edtech sectors. Start-ups embody innovation and job creation for young people, reflecting a growing entrepreneurial dynamism.

In Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso and other cities, incubators and accelerators support project leaders. Jokkolabs, Dream Up, CIDE (Centre d’Incubation et de Développement de l’Entrepreneuriat), Impact Hub and La Fabrique form a support network offering mentoring, training and access to financing.

The 2iE incubator, operational since 2012, supports innovative projects and companies in agribusiness, eco-construction, water, sanitation and renewable energy. It also offers an accelerator and incubator for companies wishing to scale up.

Financing remains a major challenge, but the measures are multiplying. The National Fund for the Financing of Innovation (FONAFI), created in 2019, and the Private Sector Support Fund (FASP) offer loans ranging from 500,000 to 50 million CFA francs.

Banks such as Coris Bank International and UBA Burkina Faso support start-ups through competitions and dedicated products. The « UBA Innovative Startup Award », launched as part of Faso Digital 2026, attracted 208 applications in various fields: trade, education, health, agriculture, digital sovereignty and finance.

In agritech, apps like Yilga, developed by student Jovani Brayan Sorgho, give farmers access to information on market prices, cultivation techniques and weather forecasts. In August 2026, the Sahel Tech Innovation Challenge crowned « Terra AI », an artificial intelligence at the service of farmers, developed by Kaboré Innocent.

The PADEJ-MR, financed by the African Development Bank to the tune of €13.62 million, has enabled 350 young people and women to complete their incubation journey, with 303 business plans finalized and more than €610,000 disbursed to finance 34 of them.

Despite these advances, there are still many challenges: limited access to finance for young people without guarantees, insufficient digital infrastructure in rural areas, and a regulatory framework that can still be improved.

But the momentum is on. With competitions such as the Faso Digital 2026 and the Total Startupper Challenge, Burkina Faso encourages innovation, offering prizes, incubation and visibility to the winners.

The Burkinabe start-up nation is on the move. Driven by a creative and determined youth, it transforms local challenges into opportunities for innovation and growth.
