Sudan: Tasis Alliance denounces ‘flagrant violation’ after deadly drone in North Kordofan
The Sudanese Founding Alliance (Ta’sis) strongly condemned the drone attack that targeted the town of Al-Mazroub in North Kordofan state on Friday morning. According to initial reports, the death toll is likely to rise and has left nine dead and about 24 injured. The Alliance described the attack as a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
In a statement, the alliance said the bombing targeted densely populated residential neighborhoods and civilian areas and held the army and its affiliated groups directly responsible for the operation. The Alliance said the attack was a systematic targeting of civilians and innocent people, and a flagrant violation of international agreements that require the protection of civilians from the ravages of armed conflict and the safeguarding of their homes and vital infrastructure.
Ta’sis called for an urgent international investigation. In the face of the deteriorating humanitarian situation following the bombing, the coalition has issued an urgent appeal to the international community, UN agencies and human rights organizations, demanding an independent investigation by a transparent international commission of inquiry. This commission would be responsible for examining the circumstances of the air strike and determining legal responsibilities so that the perpetrators do not go unpunished.
The coalition also called for an immediate medical response to provide medical and humanitarian care to the wounded and assess the number of people affected in order to provide them with life-saving assistance.
The official spokesman of the Sudanese Founding Alliance, Professor Ahmed Tagad Lissan, stressed that « the lives and safety of civilians cannot be a bargaining chip or a battleground, » insisting that the protection of residential areas is a moral and legal obligation that cannot be compromised or neglected.
The statement concluded by affirming that the rights of the victims and the blood of the innocent « will not be lost in the din of the fighting », calling for the principle of accountability and the application of justice as a top priority to end the bloodshed of the Sudanese people and preserve their dignity.
