Burkina Faso: Digital disinformation – the imperialists’ new weapon for destabilising the country
Burkina Faso finds itself today at a decisive turning point in its history, for it is engaged in an existential struggle for its sovereignty and total emancipation. This quest for independence, however, is troubling imperialist powers, who see their interests threatened and, consequently, are redoubling their ingenuity in attempts to derail this project.
Indeed, they suffered a resounding failure in their efforts to destabilize the country through terrorism thanks to the exemplary resilience of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).
After this failure, these dark forces have shifted their strategy. As a result, they are now waging an information war, the objective of which is to provoke popular uprisings to overthrow legitimate authorities and, thereby, plunge the country back into chronic instability.
A carefully orchestrated information war
In fact, unable to achieve military victory on the ground, the imperialists are now investing in the digital realm with plans of manipulation and disinformation of unprecedented sophistication.
Furthermore, their most formidable instruments are mass disinformation and the pernicious exploitation of artificial intelligence.
Thus, cloned voices, forged audio recordings, and synthetic videos are now being produced on a large scale.
These deceptive contents are designed, on the one hand, to create the illusion of terrorist advances and, on the other hand, to paint a catastrophic picture of armed groups controlling the entire territory.
Moreover, they aim to sow discord within the armed forces, in order to weaken national cohesion. This entire machinery is therefore conceived to instill a sense of abandonment, generate fear and panic, and, ultimately, turn the population against its own leaders.
Vigilance: An essential reflex
In the face of this hybrid threat, vigilance must become the essential reflex of every Burkinabe. Indeed, under no circumstances should anyone become an unwitting relay for the enemies of the nation.
Consequently, before sharing a recording, an alarming video, or a rumor on social media, it is imperative to ask: Where does this information come from? Who would benefit from a climate of panic? In other words, every citizen must exercise critical thinking and not allow themselves to be overwhelmed by emotion.
A battle fought in the minds of the people
Ultimately, the population is called upon not to yield to raw emotion or psychological manipulation, and to seek information exclusively from official sources. For the battle for freedom is not fought only on the battlefield, but also in the minds of the people through lucidity and patriotic cohesion.
Thus, it is by remaining united and vigilant that the people of Burkina Faso will be able to thwart the traps of this invisible war and preserve the hard-won gains of their sovereignty.
