Burkina Faso: The government suspends exports of cereal flour to prioritise the domestic market
Food sovereignty is also defended at the borders. Burkina Faso has banned, until further notice, exports of millet flour and sorghum derivatives. The decision was announced in an official communiqué dated 9 October and signed by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts, Serge Gnaniodem Poda.
The measure is clear and uncompromising: no special export authorization will be issued for these products as long as the decision remains in force.
The authorities’ stated objective is clear: to guarantee sufficient supply on the national market and improve access to these essential products for Burkinabe consumers, in a context where availability is a vital issue for millions of families.
The government is not stopping at an announcement: it is mobilizing. Economic operators, border control services, and security forces are called upon to ensure the effective enforcement of the measure on the ground.
Offenders face sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations a warning that this decision is not symbolic but operational.
Citizens are also being called upon. The authorities invite the population to report any case of non-compliance via the toll-free numbers 80 00 11 84, 85, and 86, turning every Burkinabè actor into a sentinel of national food security.
